How to Double The Power Of PR Using The Internet
Whether you engage a PR consultancy to get PR exposure or you write and submit your own press releases, here’s a way to generate much more exposure with minimal effort.
We all know that if you blanket broadcast a press release to every editor under the sun (whether or not your article is appropriate for their readers), is the quickest way to see you burn those contacts. That’s a given. Having said that, there are numerous, targeted ways to increase your press release coverage in a targeted way, over the Internet.
This is one of the key methods I have used to drive vast numbers of traffic to my websites over the years.
These methods include:
1. Newsgroups
There are tens, even hundreds of thousands of newsgroups on the Internet and many hundreds that are likely to relate to your particular topic. Many freely accept submissions. Some are moderated and some are un-moderated. Although a good 60% are purely rubbish advertising all manner of get rich quick schemes, there are some really good industry or interest specific newsgroups out there. It’s simply a matter of knowing where to look.
2. Article Banks
There are a number of websites which freely accept informative articles and press releases on all manner of topics. These organisations use your article as a way of building the value of their site which therefore increases repeat business. It also helps drive traffic to their sites. They win by increasing stickiness and increasing their traffic and you win by increasing your exposure and generating traffic to your website by way of a link placed at the bottom of the article.
3. E-newsletter publishers
A number of e-newsletter publishers worldwide will accept articles FREE of charge and publish them in their e-newsletters in exchange for a link back to your site. Some of these publishers have 100,000+ subscribers. One publisher featured my article on proposal writing in their e-newsletter and it generated 180 hits to my site, 43 newsletter subscriptions, 8 product sales and a further 8 enquiries for our copywriting services.
4. Online news services
For a modest fee, and sometimes free of charge, online news services will allow you to post press releases on an ongoing basis. They are a valuable source of news for offline magazine and newsletter publishers around the world.
5. News section on your website … create a news room section and feature all press releases on your site
6. Email your press release to all your clients and when you gain coverage in an offline publication, scan the news article and email it to your clients.
